"Paolo really knows when to push and when to push harder! He's great to work with - always cheery and always in a good mood. Thanks!" - Rav Suri

Bay area native Paolo Galvez started his career in personal training while he was earning his B.S. in Kinesiology & Exercise Science from San Francisco State University. He’d originally set his sights on becoming a Physical Therapist (his wife is one), but decided to switch to personal training after seeing first-hand that his interests were not perfectly aligned with the profession.

“I enjoyed the aspect of working with people,” he says. “However the drawback to being a Physical Therapist is that by the time you see a patient it’s too late to prevent the injury that brought them in. As a trainer, I can help people prevent the injury in the first place.”

Paolo gives an example. “I had a female client who was going on a vacation, and quite nervous about hurting her back pulling heavy suitcases off the conveyer belt. We worked on squat and pull exercises so she’d be prepared. When she came back from the trip to see me, she was all smiles-- it had been a piece of cake.”

Outside of training at AXIS, Paolo is pursuing a Master’s in Biomechanics & Kinesiology. “I’m driving up twice a week to San Francisco State,” he says. “Between clients, studying, and spending time with my family, I’m very busy—but very happy!”

Paolo’s favorite activity is to spend time with his wife and two children, ages 5 and 10 months. For exercise, he prefers to run. “Besides great cardiovascular exercise, running is my version of therapy-- a time when I can get away and order my thoughts,” he says.

What's new with me....I recently had two knee surgeries, and to get back on my feet and stay motivated I trained for and completed the San Jose International Triathlon. I feel that was a big accomplishment after having surgeries, ACL replacement and meniscus replacement. Also this year I bought a house and have a new baby on the way!  I have started working with the Sacred Heart Prep Waterpolo and swim teams for strength and conditioning.

My Hobbies include...Spending time with my beautiful family, swimming, biking and anything outdoors.

My Hometown is...Redwood City, CA

My Favorite Foods... Anything, eating is a pleasure.

My Favorite Movies....Star Wars!!!, Serendipity (yeah, it's romantic).

My Favorite Vacation Spot...Hawaii, although I would like to see Greece.
